The matched U/D configuration uses complementary optical wavelengths, allowing bidirectional communication through one fiber rather than requiring a conventional duplex fiber pair. Each module uses a single SC optical connector and supports Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM), providing optical operating information that can help network technicians monitor transceiver performance and troubleshoot fiber links. Comparable 1.25G 20km BiDi SC SFP modules are designed around the 1000BASE-BX standard and operate over single-mode fiber with a typical link budget in the 13–14dB range.
